Planning together: sharing your household
Connect with the person you plan with. Each of you keeps your own simulations, and you choose which ones the household sees.
Most retirement plans belong to two people, but an account belongs to one. Household sharing closes that gap. A household is a connection between people: you invite the person you plan with, they sign in with their own email and password, and from then on each of you sees the simulations the other shares, in one list beside your own. Each simulation stays with the person who made it, and that person decides who can see it. Nothing is transferred or copied.
Inviting someone
- Choose Share with household under Sim Actions in the sidebar, or Household from your account menu.
- Type their email address and choose Invite.
- They get an emailed link. Opening it shows them what joining means before they accept, and they must sign in (or create an account) with that email address. A different address is refused. If they are not signed in yet, they come back to the invitation after signing in, even if they had to verify a new account first.
Invitations last 14 days. Until one is accepted it sits under Pending invitations, where you can resend it or withdraw it. A household holds up to four people besides you; a pending invitation holds a place until it is accepted or withdrawn. Only the person who started the household can invite.
One list, grouped
In a household, the sidebar's simulation list has two groups. Household holds every shared simulation, from everyone; a simulation someone else made carries their initials. Just me holds your own simulations that nobody else can see.
When you join, the simulations you already had are set to Just me, so joining shows nobody anything you did not choose to share. The same goes for the person who invited you: when the first person joins their household, their existing simulations are set to Just me too, and they share the ones they want from the sidebar. So right after you join, the Household group may be empty. New simulations you make start shared, and they are always yours, even when you make them while looking at someone else's. A copy you make of someone else's simulation is yours too.
Who can see this sim
Under the simulation list, Who can see this sim has two choices for the selected simulation: Household or Just me. Only the person who made a simulation can change it. On someone else's simulation it is greyed out and says who made it. A "Just me" simulation disappears for everyone else, including the person who started the household: it is not in their list, they cannot open it, and Change history stops showing edits to it. A financial planner linked to your plan still sees it: "Just me" hides a simulation from the household, not from your planner.
Opening someone else's simulation safely
A simulation someone else made opens in Explorer mode: you can look at everything and run it, but the inputs are locked so you cannot change their numbers by accident. A banner across the top says whose simulation it is. When you mean to make a change, use Switch to Edit and confirm. Your own simulations never do this: they are always directly editable. Anyone in the household can edit a shared simulation, but only the person who made it can delete it.
Change history
Every change made to your simulations by someone else is recorded: what changed, from what to what, which simulation it was in, and who did it. Read it from the Change history button on the banner, or from the short line that appears on your own shared simulations when someone else has made changes. The line shows only while someone else is in your household, and never on a Just me simulation.
Rapid edits to the same field within a few minutes are recorded as one entry rather than one per keystroke, so the history reads as a list of decisions instead of a keystroke log.
Removing access, and leaving
In the account menu's Household window the person who started the household can remove anyone, and anyone else can leave at any time. Either way the connection ends immediately: they stop seeing your simulations, and you stop seeing theirs.
Nothing moves and nothing is deleted. Each person's simulations stay in their own list, and their Change history is kept, though its line stops appearing once nobody else is left in the household.
